What happened to Record Store Day 2020, our Record Store Day 2020 recommendationsand RSD 2020 new dates
The music industry has been a mess in the spring of 2020 and the unparalleled global events. Venues closed, live streaming, online shopping only, release dates delays, support campaigns, all of these marked the music insiders and lovers in the long spring days of lockdown. The good news, however, are that we have a steady stream of upcoming valuable releases set to come in almost half-an-year period of time in the Records Store Day 2020 release dates and most of them also available online.
Here is the Laterna Guide through the Record Store Day 2020 releases, our choice of 15 records (ok, maybe more) worth your attention and money.
Record Store Day 2020 Drop Dates
Due to the unprecedented worldwide events from the spring of 2020 the initial date for Record Store Day 2020 was postponed to the 20th of June. Sometime after that the RSD organizers decided that the situation demands further changes. The changes materialised in the idea that the RSD releases will be available in the participating record stores in the so-called “drops” at the designated “drop” dates.
At the time of writing the drop dates are as follows:
- Saturday, 29 August
- Saturday, 26 September
- Saturday, 24 October
What happened to the postponed date?
A lot of labels and artists decided to release the records they’ve prepared for Record Store Day in June without waiting for the drop dates or the initial date and they were dropped off the updated list of RSD. Some releases continue to be advertised as RSD 2020 with release date of 20th of June. To complete the whole frenzy the date of July 17th started to appear for releases still participating in RSD.
In the Record Store Day 2020 Releases: The Laterna Guide we will try to cope with the tedious task to showcase a few releases that are worth having along with their expected release dates and the hectic schedule of RSD releases.
